Play These Fun Games On Your Next Road Trip

You’ve got your bags packed, your road map labeled, and your iPod playlist set. You are ready for a road trip. Whether it is spring break, a vacation from work, or any other reason to break from the day-to-day routine, taking a road trip with friends or family is always an adventure.  Here are a few fun games you can play with your fellow road trippers for those extra long exoduses because let’s face it: jerking your arm up and down at the sight of every semi-truck and tuning in and out of Evangelical Christian radio stations can only be tolerated for so long.

Slug-a-Bug

We’ve all been introduced to this game at some point, usually with an unsuspected punch to the arm. It is a little violent and can get out of hand with certain people playing it, but the slug-a-bug game can be mindless little fun as you attempt to point out Volkswagen Beatles before your opponent can and then punish them with a right cross or left hook. Plus, what better car to associate with violence then the flagship automobile of the hippie generation that represented peace and love.

The Geography Game

From exercising your fists to exercising your brain. All road trippers know that geography is much more fun in a car than in a classroom. There are many variations to this classic road trip game but one of the more interesting variations is naming states, major cities, or countries by taking the last letter of the place your opponent named and using it as the first letter for your choice. See how long your group can continue the chain of impressive knowledge of geography as well as the alphabet.

Name The Tune

If you find yourself in a car full of individuals who were raised on television (which is most anyone born after 1950) then you might find the “name the tune” game a rewarding one. Simply hum, whistle, “do-do”, or “dun-dun” your way through a memorable TV theme song and see who’s got their ear to the ground of pop culture. Keep in mind that generation gaps might get in the way as mom and dad probably won’t know the theme song for Hannah Montana and junior probably won’t know the theme for Dallas. But everyone, regardless of age, should know the funky horn-tune for Sanford and Son.
